In his free time, Dr. Zimmet enjoys spending time with family, especially his grandchildren; reading American history, “beach” books, and legal and spy thrillers!
Biography
Dr. Steven Zimmet joined PMA Health in 1974, after serving in the US Navy. He has particular clinical interests in preventive medicine and the treatment of asthma and COPD.
Dr. Zimmet completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History and pursued his medical education. He then pursued an internal medicine internship and residency at Georgetown University Hospital, followed by a Pulmonary Disease fellowship in 1974.
Dr. Zimmet was the Medical Director in the Intensive Care Unit at Virginia Hospital Center for more than 20 years and served in other leadership positions in the department of medicine and pulmonary division. Additionally, he served as President of NAMDRC, a national association of pulmonary leaders, and was also President of the Virginia Thoracic Society and Virginia Society of Internal Medicine.
